Testosterone

Also known as: T, Male Hormone

Well-Established Hormones & Endocrine

The primary male sex hormone responsible for muscle mass, bone density, libido, and overall vitality in both sexes.

FULL EXPLANATION

Testosterone is an androgen hormone produced primarily in the testes in men and in smaller amounts in the ovaries and adrenal glands in women. It's essential for muscle mass, bone density, fat distribution, red blood cell production, and sex drive.

Testosterone levels naturally decline with age (about 1% per year after age 30 in men). Low testosterone can cause fatigue, reduced muscle mass, increased body fat, mood changes, and decreased libido.

WHY IT MATTERS

Optimal testosterone levels support muscle mass, metabolic health, cognitive function, mood, and quality of life in both men and women.

HOW TO IMPROVE

Support natural testosterone through resistance training, adequate sleep, stress management, maintaining healthy body fat, zinc and vitamin D sufficiency, and limiting alcohol.

NORMAL RANGES

Men: 300-1000 ng/dL (optimal often considered 500-800+). Women: 15-70 ng/dL. Free testosterone is often more clinically relevant than total.
